The Saint-Jean Festival has its roots in ancient pagan summer solstice celebrations, later embraced by the Christian tradition to honor Saint John the Baptist. In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the event has grown into a culturally rich and intergenerational celebration that reflects the Basque identity.
The highlight? A large public bonfire—symbolizing purification, light, and unity.
